How to Make Smothered Pork Chops

This casserole is super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. Season boneless pork chops with seasoned salt and black pepper. Heat olive oil or vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add pork chops to the skillet and give them a good sear on both sides, just until they start to turn golden brown.

Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Spread cooked rice in the bottom of the pan. Place browned pork chops on top of the rice. In a small bowl, whisk together cream of chicken soup and milk. Pour soup mixture over boneless chops. Bake uncovered until the pork chops reach an internal temperature of 145ºF. Remove the pan from the oven. Sprinkle shredded cheese and cooked chopped bacon over the top of the pork chops. Bake for an additional 5 minutes, until the cheese has melted.

Comments

  1. Could this be made with thin chops I normally buy those cause the hubby doesn’t like them too thick would cooking and pan frying time be different since they are so thin

  2. Great Recipe and very tasty! I made as written except used salt and pepper to season. Delicious! Definitely making this again!

  3. Are you sure the cheese amounts listed is correct? When looking at the picture it appears as though there is way more cheese on top than 1/2 c cheddar. Maybe the mozzarella is a half and cheddar is 3/4 C??

  4. if i choose not to sear the chops ahead of time and just put them ontop of the cooked rice; how long extra should i let it bake?

    1. I don’t have an exact time for you. You will just have to check them and see when they reach 145ºF.

  5. I never leave ratings or comments but this one deserves it. This recipe is for sure going in the rotation—maybe even starting lineup. So good.

  6. OMG!!! F8NALLY a “smothered” recipe that doesn’t require ONIONS!!! Hubby suffers 2 chronic gastroesophageal conditions which make onions (and a HOST of other foods) BIG NO-NO’s, this will be the FIRST smothered recipe I can make without omitting a BIGA part of it!!! Can’t wait to make it!!!

  7. This recipe looks wonderful, but my husband does not like pork chops. Do you have any suggestions for substitute protein.

  8. freezable? I cook for my elderly father and try to make things ahead and freeze so he can just take out a single portion to heat and eat.

  9. Made this for supper last night. It was AH-Mazing! Everyone loved it, even my picky eaters! Thanks for sharing. I'll definitely be making this again.

    1. I've never heard of soggy rice. I don't think uncooked rice would be done in the time the casserole bakes, but you can cook this however you wish.

  10. Love that fall comfort food! And I've got some picky eaters, so any and all "clean plate club" recipes are needed at my house. Thanks, Steph!
