I’ve been making this Homemade Pizza Sauce recipe for years! This sauce is super simple to make and has tons of great flavor! There are only a few ingredients and it makes the BEST pizza sauce. The sauce is so much better than a jar of store-bought sauce, plus you can control the ingredients (and sodium) in it. I always have the ingredients on hand to whip up a batch for pizza night.
How to Make Pizza Sauce from Scratch
This sauce is super easy to make with only a few pantry staples. In a saucepan, stir together tomato sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat.
- I use dried spices in the sauce. You can substitute fresh herbs if you prefer. You will need to triple the seasonings in the sauce if using fresh herbs.
- Feel free to add basil, marjoram, or rosemary to the sauce.
- sometimes I add a pinch of red pepper flakes to give the sauce a little heat.
- Can substitute crushed tomatoes for tomato sauce.
- Can pizza sauce be frozen? Yes! Make the sauce and cool completely. Place the sauce in an airtight container and freeze. When ready to make pizza, remove the sauce from the freezer and thaw.
- I like to make a double batch and divide the sauce into two portions and freeze one for later.
- How long does homemade pizza sauce last? The sauce will keep for up to a week in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
How to Make Pizza in a Brownie Pan
Our favorite way to make pizza at home is in a Baker’s Edge Brownie Pan. This brownie pan pizza is great for family pizza night because everyone can have their own row and use their favorite toppings. Plus everyone gets a crispy edge piece!
To make this homemade pizza recipe, shape pizza dough into a rectangle. Cut the rectangle into four equal slices. Spray brownie pan with cooking spray. Place each strip of dough into the brownie pan, sealing seams at the corner. Top the dough with pizza sauce. Add mozzarella cheese and your favorite pizza toppings. Pop the pan in the oven and bake until the cheese has melted and the crust is golden brown.
- You can buy the Brownie Pan on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3JXm9ub (affiliate link)
- You can use homemade pizza dough or store-bought dough. Either one works great!

Can I use a plain glass pan?
You can make the pizza in any pan you want.
I love that I can use my brownie pan for something other than brownies! You're so clever!!!
I love that I can use my brownie pan for something other than brownies! You're so clever!!!
If I don't have dried whole thyme, can I use dried ground thyme?
I've thought about getting one of these brownie pans-I LOVE the edges, but couldn't justify it for just one item…now I am inspired and also wondering about making a row of cinnamon rolls ("this row has nuts") and how about Lasagna ("this one has all the good stuff jammed into it, this one just cheese") as well as meatloaf for easy portioning to the freezer! Yum!
Those are all good ideas!
What a great idea! We have one of those brownie pans and I hate it because I don't like brownie edges, but I do love pizza! We've almost given the pan away a half dozen times, now I'm glad we didn't 🙂 At least I don't think we did… maybe I should check…
Kimberly – I used dried oregano
Is that ground oregano or dried in the sauce?
That is so cool!
What a fun pizza! The sauce looks yummy.
What a cute idea!
What a fantastic idea! I've never come across that pan other than seeing it on Oprah's giveaways.
Gayle – amazon.com sells the baker's edge brownie pan. It has free shipping too!
That is a genius pan! Where can I get one. I need some of this pizza right now!
My sister-in-law gave me that pan several years ago. I haven't loved it for brownies though. Pizza looks like a fun idea. I don't think my kids will believe it's pizza if it's not a triangle though!
haven't seen one of those pans before
neat looking pizza
It's funny, I never thought that pan was a good idea for brownies (everyone in my family wants the gooey center pieces) but it makes perfect sense for pizza!
GREAT way to use my brownie pan!! Cannot wait to try this!
What a great idea!!!

Genius! We were just having a discussion the other day how no one in our family likes the middle pieces when we cut pizza in squares. Problem solved!
