How to Make Mississippi Sin Hash Brown Patty Breakfast Casserole

This recipe is super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. In a large skillet, cook diced ham over medium-high heat until all of the liquid has been released. Drain liquid. Place frozen hash brown patties in the bottom of a baking dish sprayed with cooking spray. Sprinkle diced ham over hashbrowns. Add a layer of shredded cheddar cheese and chopped green onions. Whisk together cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce in a large bowl—season with salt and black pepper. Add eggs and milk to the bowl, and mix until well blended. Pour egg mixture over ham and cheese. Bake uncovered in a preheated oven until the eggs are set.

Helpful Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • There is no need to thaw or pre-cook the hash brown potato patties before adding them to the pan.
  • You can use any cheese that you enjoy. I use sharp cheddar cheese. Colby-Jack, Monterey Jack, pepper jack, and gouda all taste great.
  • Use room temperature cream cheese to get it fully incorporated into the egg mixture.
    • You can microwave the cream cheese for a few seconds if you are short on time.
    • It is OK to have a few tiny clumps of cream cheese in the egg mixture.
  • Do I have to cook the ham in a skillet? I find that packaged diced ham has a lot of water in it. I like to cook the liquid out of the ham before adding it to the pan. You can skip this step if you prefer.
  • Is Mississippi Sin Breakfast Casserole gluten-free? Use a gluten-free Worcestershire sauce for a gluten-free dish.
  • Can Hash Brown Patty Breakfast Casserole be made in advance? Yes! You can assemble the casserole and refrigerate it until you are ready to bake.
