This recipe came about much like my Crack Potatoes recipe – leftover Crack Dip. I hardly ever make a regular chicken casserole. In my opinion, the old-school sour cream and cream of chicken soup recipe is too mushy and lacks flavor. I thought if I substituted Crack Dip for the sour cream and added noodles it might be good. I was wrong, it was great! Seriously delicious! Chicken Legs especially loved it. This makes a ton, so I froze half of it for later. This is definitely going in the regular dinner rotation!

Instructions:

  • Cook egg noodles according to package directions, drain.

Notes:

  • I suggest using Unsalted Cream of Chicken Soup in this dish to control the sodium.

  1. I can’t wait to make this! I am going to lighten it up a bit w/ fat free soups & light sour cream 7 I’m going to add peas, carrots & onion, as suggested by a few others, but this sounds fantastic! Love your recipes! 🙂

  2. Very good! I cut back on the sour cream and added some milk so it wouldn’t be quite so rich. I also added frozen peas. I also skipped the frito topping and did a panko/ dried onion topping

  3. Magnificent dish! My wife and I kept going back for more and when I took leftovers to work ( the two of us could only eat half of the pan of food ) the guys gave me a hard time for not making more. Followed the recipe exactly. Might add red onions next time, even though it’s perfect as is.

  4. This dish was big hit…..the only thing I changed was the fritos, I used French’s Crispy Fried Onions and it turned out great.

  5. So, so good!!! I didn’t have bacon or Fritos. I used a whole block of sharp cheddar. Those were the only changes. I will definitely make this again! I love Plain Chicken recipes

  6. Could you use some type of frozen veggie added to this to get the vegetable all in one dish? What would you suggest and how much?

  7. I make this every year with leftover Turkey and I don’t have to worry about leftover Turkey anymore. Always fantastic!

  8. Variant: We didn’t have cream of soup, so used roasted garlic Alfredo sauce – 2 15 oz jars and had to do the ritz and butter topping. Amazing! Bet the original is equally amazing. Will try it.

  9. I want to know who ever has left over Crack Dip??? 🙂 …. Seriously my 3 yr old grand daughter loves her chicken dip…. i put it on scoops and i can't keep enough made up for her….. this is a recipe i am going to try for sure…. on a side note i take boneless chicken breast and boneless thighs and put a great rub on them and cook them in the crock pot…. then shred….. put 2-3 cups in bags and freeze for whenever i want some chicken for these delish recipes….

  10. I just made this and I think it turned out great! Even my super critical teenagers liked it. Thanks for the recipe!!!!

  11. Oh yes this stuff is like crack! I threw in a bag of frozen veggies and it was great. Definitely gonna add this to my recipe list!

    1. I would thaw it first and bake it for the time listed. If you want to bake it frozen, cover it with foil and bake for about 15 minutes and then uncover it and bake for an additional 30 minutes or until bubbly.

  12. silly question, but you say you froze half for later…does that mean you could split this amount into two 8×8 dishes or did half of it fit into a 9×13? Thanks!

  13. This was delicious! I used light sour cream and 99% fat free soup. Trying to figure out the calories – do you have the original calories per serving?

  14. I made this tonight and it was absolutely delish! I've been making recipes from your blog every day for the last two weeks and this is my favorite so far 🙂

  15. One of our new favorite family recipes! I've also started making it when bringing over a meal to friends/neighbors — good flavor from the ranch, but not so "intense" that it's going to be disliked by a pickier eater or by a new nursing mama. Any leftovers reheat nicely in the microwave the next day for my lunch at work! Thanks!

  16. Assuming the chicken is precooked as well???
Also, do you cut the chicken into chunks or shred?? Wanting to make right now but not sure as theres no specifics.

    1. just an fyi….easiest way to shred your chicken…..place in a bowl (hot or cold chicken) and use your hand mixer….the best way to shred and easy, so easy!

  17. I don't enjoy cooking meals – I only like to bake. As a result, I don't have a lot of confidence when cooking for others so we don't have friends over very often. I always ask my husband to rate the dishes I try so that I know if I should try something again. Tonight, I made Cracked Out Chicken Noodle Casserole and while eating, my husband said, "You could make this for company!" So, that's a good thing!

    1. Yes – the bacon is cooked before adding it to the casserole. I use either Oscar Mayer or Hormel bacon pieces found in the salad dressing section.

  18. Can't wait to try!! Fritos may be just what the Chicken & Poppy seed cass I make needs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pinned for dinner 😉

  19. I LOVE your Crack Potatoes- I almost always have a couple of pans in the freezer ready to go! Would you freeze this one before cooking, like the Crack Potatoes, or after? I haven't frozen anything with noodles, so not sure how to do it. Thanks for all of the great recipes!
