Pin This RecipeStop what you are doing and add this French Onion Chicken Bubble Up to your menu. It is seriously delicious! We could not stop eating it. I literally licked my plate! It was that good!! We’ve made this several times and never get tired of eating it.
This is made with my new favorite ingredient – French Onion Dip. I love to use Kraft brand, but you can use your favorite brand of French Onion Dip. Like our other Bubble Up recipes, this only takes a few minutes to make. It is ready to eat in 30 minutes. Make sure to buy the smaller Grands Jr biscuits. There are 10 biscuits in the can. If you use the bigger Grands! biscuits the casserole won’t cook through. Also, make sure to spread the biscuits around in the pan so they aren’t all clumped together. This will ensure the biscuits bake and aren’t doughy when you pull it out of the oven.

French Onion Chicken Bubble Up
Ingredients:
- 2 cups cooked chopped chicken
- 1 (10.5-oz) can Unsalted Cream of Chicken Soup
- 1 cup refrigerated sour cream French Onion Dip
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 (12-oz) can refrigerated Grands Jr biscuits (10 count)
- ¼ cup French Fried Onions
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350ºF. Lightly spray a 9×13-inch pan with cooking spray.
- Combine chicken, soup, dip, and cheese. Cut each biscuit into 4 pieces. Toss with chicken mixture.
- Pour chicken mixture into prepared pan. Top with French fried onions.
- Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, until bubbly and biscuits are golden brown.
Notes:
- Please note, this recipe uses the smaller sized canned biscuits.
- If you can’t find the smaller 12-oz can of biscuits, you can use the larger 16-oz can. Use 7 of the 8 biscuits and cut each biscuit into 6 pieces.
- Make sure to use refrigerated sour cream based French Onion dip such as Heluva Good Dip, Barber’s, Dean’s or Kraft. Do not use jarred dip.
- If you can’t find sour cream dip, you can use 1 cup sour cream and a tablespoon of onion soup mix.
- I suggest using Unsalted Cream of Chicken Soup in this dish to control the sodium.

Hey! What type of Grands Jr's did you use? The flaky layers or the traditional?
I usually use the traditional but either will work. Enjoy!
Can you freeze it? If so before or after cooking?
I would freeze it after baking.
My momma raised me to not waste food… I just can't throw that extra grand biscuit away, so I'm going to bake it in an 11×14 pan instead and use them all. I'll let you know how it turns out 🙂
You could also just use a can of Grands Jr as called for in the recipe. No waste.
I am preparing to make this for dinner tonight. I, also, only have a can of the larger Grand's but it is 12 ounces. That is the amount specified in the recipe. So, I am going to use them all. I also lack cream of chicken soup,so I will use cream of mushroom and stir in some chicken base.
Your recipes are the kinds of foods my husband loves. We have so enjoyed the tastes we have been trying since we found you late last year.
I believe Pillsbury dropped the Jr from the name. If the can is 12-oz, that is what I used.
Anyone tried this using the crescent type rolls? That's all I have on hand. Thanks!
They don't sell Grands Jr. anywhere here, is the a substitute that is suitable?
You can use regular Grands biscuits – only use 7 of the biscuits and cut each of them into 6 pieces
For the French Onion Dip, does it matter if it's cream cheese based or sour cream based? Does one work better than the other?
I only use the sour cream based refrigerated French Onion Dip
Made this last night! I made my kids something else to eat because they are so picky, and they ended up eating this because it looked and smelled so good!
I'm going to make this but without the biscuits. Our family has gluten intolerance, it's not pleasant to be around us when we eat anything gluten. This sounds delicious just with the chicken alone.

Be care because some french onion dip have gluten in them. I know Lipton Onion Soup Mix does.
Hi Steph, do you have the nutrition information on this dish?
Ooooo, girl!! I DID stop what I was doing yesterday, and made this for supper last night! I had everything but the dip, so I stopped at our local gas station to get some (unrefrigerated). That 9×13 pan was gone in 20 minutes! I have never written a "review", but I stopped my busy day to let you know, Stephanie, that this was AWESOME! My kids told me to make more next time. GREAT recipe!
YAY!!! Thank you for leaving a comment! I'm so excited it was a hit!!!
I've made your French Onion based recipes a few times and they are always a hit. However, because we have several vegetarians in our family I have made these several times without chicken and served them as a side dish and they are still a big hit. My one "trick" is that instead of using the pre-made French Onion Dip I get a package of the Trader Joe's Onion Dip (better than Lipton!) and mix that with Daisy sour cream the night before and use that in place of the french onion dip. Just as flavorful but with less ingredients that I cannot pronounce. My husband loves this as the noodle casserole with chicken and my vegetarian family loves it as a main dish with a side salad. I bet they will love this version using biscuits!
Wow! Thank you for the tip!
Mmmm I love Bubble Ups! Fantastic twist on this dish!
You are the Bubble Up Queen and this sounds delicious.
Is the French Onion Dip the refrigerated type or the jarred/canned?
It is the refrigerated French Onion Dip
Thank you!
Could you use frozen biscuits for this? That is all I have on hand.
I haven’t made this with frozen biscuits, so I can not say.
Do you have nutrition info for this recipe? Thank you!
If you need the WW SmartPoints, I can tell you that 6 servings, if you lighten this up is 9 SP. I used Costco rotisserie chicken breast, 16 ounces, 2% cheddar, low fat french onion dip and the Campbells Healthy Request soup. The Pillsbury 10 count, 7.5 can of biscuits cut into 4ths ought to be enough. Does that help or do you need the full nutritional counts as run through My Fitness Pal? I can do the work for you if that is too difficult. I am good at it. Let me know.
