This Whiskey Pineapple Chicken is crazy delicious! Chicken marinated in whiskey, pineapple juice, bbq sauce, garlic and Worcestershire sauce. We let the chicken marinate overnight in the marinade and it was DELICIOUS! You could let it marinade two days if you want even more flavor!!

We brushed the chicken with a little extra BBQ sauce before pulling it off the grill. Feel free to add a shot of whiskey to the BBQ sauce for a little extra kick!! The extra BBQ sauce is totally optional, but we really loved it! It also give the chicken some nice color.

We ate this for lunch and dinner on the same day! It was that good!! The leftovers didn’t last long. I’ve added this chicken to the menu for the next week. We are totally addicted to all the flavors in this grilled chicken.

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup bourbon or whiskey
  • ¾ cup pineapple juice
  • ½ cup bbq sauce
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 4 chicken breasts

Instructions:

  • Whisk together bourbon, pineapple juice, BBQ sauce, garlic, Worcestershire sauce and pepper. Pour over chicken and let marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
  • Remove chicken from marinade and grill for 12 to 15 minutes. Brush with additional BBQ sauce before removing from grill, if desired.

Notes:

To cook chicken inside, pan sear the chicken on both sides for 3 to 4 minutes. Place the chicken on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes at 400ºF.
Can use the marinade on any cut of chicken. Make sure to cook the chicken until it reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF.
4 bottles of store-bought BBQ sauce
My favorite BBQ sauces are G. Hughes, Sweet Baby Rays, Stubbs, and Williamson Brothers.

    1. you can use whatever you prefer. Cook the chicken until it reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF.

      1. The pineapple juice works best in a marinade because the citric acid tenderizes the meat better. If you added a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice with the pear it would help achieve the same thing.

      2. I would go with apricot or peach nectar. Pear is so mild, I don’t think you could taste it over the BBQ sauce.

    1. What did you end up using? I had the same question and imagine chicken broth or apple juice might work.

  1. Does it have to be sugar free bbq sauce we didn’t we seem to have many of those here in Walmart out of the ones you mentioned we only have sweet baby rays

  2. Just saw this recipe.I like trying different flavors of baked chicken breast, could I use this on baked chicken instead

  3. My husband said this was the best marinade I’ve ever made (and that’s saying a lot… I cook ALL the time!) Thanks!

  4. Could you reduce and thicken the marinade to use as a base for the bbq sauce you brush on it at the end?

    1. I am not the recipe author, but I don’t see why not 🙂 Just reserve a little marinade ON THE SIDE to reduce, but do not use the liquid you marinated the raw chicken in to make the sauce. Does that make sense?..lol 😉
I looking forward to making this too!
Much Aloha from Puna, Hawai’i 🍍🌴🌞🌺🤙😉

  5. I actually used this on boneless pork ribs, and they were awesome, even with only an 8 hour soak. I’m sure overnight would be even better. I used quite a bit less garlic, as my hubby isn’t a fan of it.
I also only poured about 2/3 of the mixture over the meat. I added some brown sugar and balsamic vinegar to the rest, and reduced it in a small saucepan over medium high heat – it made an awesome glaze to brush on while grilling the meat and some veggie kabobs.

  6. Hi Steph,

Yum! That glaze looks amazing — I haven't done a lot of booze in marinades, but clearly I've been missing out.

  7. Oh wow, does that look good! The only thing I would add to that is a slice of pineapple! Slathered with BBQ sauce and thrown on the grill for a minute. Can't wait to try this recipe!
