How to Make Mozzarella Baked Asparagus

This side dish is effortless to make with only a few simple ingredients. Place fresh trimmed asparagus spears in a baking dish. Sprinkle the asparagus with kosher salt, black pepper, and chopped fresh garlic. Pour heavy cream over the asparagus. Top the dish with grated parmesan cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle red pepper flakes over the cheese and bake in the oven until tender.

  • Make sure to trim the woody ends of the asparagus spears. The thick bottom part of the spear is white or light purple in color. It is tough and not meant to be eaten. Use a knife to quickly cut the tough ends off before adding the spears to the baking dish.
  • I used fresh minced garlic cloves. Feel free to use jarred minced garlic or even garlic powder.
  • This is also delicious with some cooked chopped bacon. Just sprinkle it over the asparagus before baking.
  • Can Baked Asparagus be made in advance? Yes! You can assemble the recipe ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight before baking.
  • You can use freshly grated parmesan cheese or the cheese in the green can. Either will work just fine.
  • You can use any cheese that you enjoy in this recipe. Swiss, gruyere, or gouda would all be delicious!
  • This would also be delicious with some crispy shallots sprinkled on top for a nice crunch. YUM!
  • I like to place the casserole dish under the broiler in the oven and broil until the cheese starts to get a little golden.
  • Is Cheesy Baked Asparagus low-carb? Yes! All of the ingredients are low-carb and keto-friendly.
  • Is Cheesy Baked Asparagus gluten-free? Yes! All of the ingredients are gluten-free.
