This Million Dollar Chicken Pierogi Casserole is comfort food at its best! Chicken and tender pierogis baked in a creamy sauce – YUM! Super simple to make and tons of great flavor from the Alfredo sauce and cheeses. We both couldn’t get enough of this for dinner! Whip up some hot biscuits and green beans and dinner is done!!

What are Pierogies?

Pierogies are similar to ravioli. It is a pasta dough filled with a variety of sweet or savory fillings. I find them in the freezer section at the grocery store. For this pierogi casserole, I used two boxes of frozen garlic & parmesan pierogies.

How to Make Million Dollar Chicken Pierogi Casserole

This casserole is super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. In a large bowl, combine Alfredo sauce, cottage cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream. Season with salt and black pepper. Stir in cooked chopped chicken, french fried onions, and pierogies. Transfer the pierogi mixture to a casserole dish. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and additional french fried onions. Bake in a preheated oven until warm and bubbly. Garnish the casserole with fresh parsley or green onions.

Helpful Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • I use rotisserie chicken for the shredded chicken in this recipe. 
    • You can use any cooked chicken that you have on hand. Chicken breasts, chicken thighs, or chicken tenderloins all work fine.
  • There is no need to thaw the pierogies before adding them to the casserole, they will cook in the oven along with the other ingredients.
  • For crispier pierogies, melt butter in a large skillet and cook pierogies on both sides until starting to turn golden brown.
  • My favorite jarred Alfredo sauce is Rao’s. I also like Trader Joe’s and Bertolli d’Italia Alfredo sauce.
  • Feel free to add spinach or chopped broccoli to the casserole.
  • Can Pierogi Casserole be made in advance? Yes! Assemble the casserole and cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to bake.
  • Can Pierogi Casserole be frozen? Yes! Assemble the casserole. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and aluminum foil. Place the dish in the freezer for up to 3 months.
    • When ready to bake, thaw and bake as directed.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Million Dollar Chicken Pierogi Casserole – comfort food at its best! Super easy to make and tastes great!   • Preheat oven to 375ºF. Lightly spray a 9×13-inch pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine Alfredo sauce, cottage cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream. Season with salt and black pepper. Stir in cooked chopped chicken, half of the french fried onions, and pierogies.
  • Transfer the pierogi mixture to a casserole dish. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and remaining french fried onions.
  • Bake, uncovered, for 35 to 45 minutes.

Notes:

  • I use rotisserie chicken for the shredded chicken in this recipe. 
    • You can use any cooked chicken that you have on hand. Chicken breasts, chicken thighs, or chicken tenderloins all work fine.

  • You want the cream cheese to be very soft so it gets fully incorporated into the casserole. Microwave the cream cheese for 15 to 20 seconds if you are short on time.
