Pin This RecipeSausage Pinwheels with Canned Biscuits
These Sausage Biscuit Pinwheels are a staple at our house. We’ve been making these for years! They are effortless to make and taste fantastic! There are only two ingredients in this recipe – sausage and canned biscuits. SO simple yet SO delicious! People go crazy over these things whenever I take them to a party. I usually double the recipe and never have any leftovers. You must give these a try ASAP!
How to Make Sausage Biscuit Pinwheels
These pinwheels are super simple to make. Start with separating each biscuit into two layers. You will have a total of 16 biscuit rounds. Place the biscuit halves on parchment paper – 4 across and 4 down, touching edges. Use a rolling pin to create a rectangle. You may need a little flour to make sure the dough doesn’t stick. After the dough is rolled out, top with raw sausage. Spread the sausage evenly on top of the dough. Starting with the long edge, roll up the biscuits. Slice dough into 1-inch pieces and bake.
- I use Tennessee Pride or Jimmy Dean hot sausage. Feel free to substitute turkey sausage.
- Do NOT cook the sausage before spreading it on the biscuit dough. The sausage will cook along with the biscuits.
- Use a serrated knife to easily cut the dough.
- Feel free to add some shredded cheddar cheese on top of the sausage, if desired. These are also great with a can of diced green chiles added on top of the sausage.
- If you want to use homemade biscuit dough instead of canned, here is our favorite homemade biscuit recipe: https://www.plainchicken.com/2-ingredient-cream-biscuits/
What to Serve with Sausage Pinwheels
We usually serve these pinwheels for breakfast with some eggs, grits, and cinnamon rolls. These also make a great party and tailgating appetizer! They taste great hot out of the oven or warmed to room temperature. Feel free to dip them into some Jalapeño Ranch Dip, salsa, or Zippy Pineapple Dip. YUM! I have these on the menu for Christmas morning. I can not wait! Give this recipe a try the next time you need a simple and delicious breakfast/appetizer!

So great fresh from the oven BUT Question – I made a batch. Delish…How do you recommend reheating? Best to keep in fridge or freezer? Reheat in Microwave or Oven? Time/Temp? Thanks just 2 of us and wanting a make ahead breakfast for busy work days.
Either the microwave or oven is fine. If you reheat them in the oven – cover them with foil so they don’t burn.
Thank you! Today zapped 20 sec in microwave with paper towel on top. Perfect.
So ez & great for busy AMs. I added thin layer of raspberry jelly on 1 side of dough before folding over. So good to grab n go! I was skeptical sausage would cook but it certainly did.
Are these still good at room temperature or do they need to be served heated?
That is just a personal preference. I think they taste fine cooled to room temperature.
These look great! I make something similar to this but def gonna have to give this a shot 🙂
I usually cut them into 12 pieces. You can cut them larger or smaller depending on how many pieces you want.
It's early morning and I'm hungry…this looks yummy! How many will this recipe make?
I'm gonna give this a try. My children love breakfast but I think these would make a yummy snack.
